about

Inspired by the TV series, ‘ANZAC girls’ and commissioned for the ANZAC centenary; ‘Somebody’s Waiting’ portrays a young soldier as he asks his nurse to write a letter home to his family after he dies.

lyrics

Somebody’s waiting back home
Somebody’s waiting back home
Tell my sister I love her and always will
I know she’s waiting back home

Somebody’s waiting back home
Somebody’s waiting back home
Tell my father I tried to keep my head down
Maybe that’ll help him back home

Somebody’s waiting back home
Somebody’s waiting back home
Tell my mother I died for a worthy cause
I know she’ll miss me back home

For I fear I’ve forgotten the warmth of my wife’s embrace
And deep in my soul there’s a pain love cannot erase
So maybe I’m glad that I’ll spare her the sight of my broken body

For although she’s waiting
Tell her I’ll be waiting too
Searching the faces
Of every person who passes through
I will be waiting at those gates oh yeah you bet
You tell her, my beauty, my queen,
I’ll be waiting
I will be waiting
I will be waiting
When she leaves her home.
